Repent

The Lyrics of the song "I Repent" by my favorite poet, prophet & songwriter Derek Webb

I Repent

I repent, I repent,
Of my pursuit of America’s dream.
I repent, I repent,
Of living like I deserve anything

Of my house, my fence,
My kids, my wife.
Of our suburb,
Where we’re safe and white

I am wrong and of these things I repent

I repent, I repent,
Of parading my high liberty.
I repent, I repent,
Of paying for what I get for free.

Of the way I believe,
that I’m living right.
By trading sins for others
That are easier to hide.

I am wrong and of these things I repent

And I repent, for judging by a law,
That even I can’t keep, no-o-o.
Of wearing righteousness like a disguise,
Of seeing through the plank In my own eyes.

I repent, I repent,
Of trading truth for false unity.
I repent, I repent,
Of confusing peace and idolatry.

For caring more of what they think,
Than what I know of what they need.
Of domesticating you,
to look just like me.

I am wrong and of these things I repent

Yet another reason why I love Derek Webb.

Man, I gotta get his other albums

Btw- this song hurts really bad and now I either have to go think about it or just ignore it. I think that's what Christ is to people- a fork in the road where they must choose one way or the other. I think Jesus wants us to be that to people... that we live our lives in such a way that it merits a decision in others. . . and i don't mean being bullhorn guy. Do you get what I'm sayin?

yeah. i get it. that's why i recommend ignoring it. on a serious note, you never see people coming in contact with Christ and then returning to "normal." Some follow, some fight, find life or death...but they never return to normal. it's that whole "stretched" thing...like once I've been stretched, going back to what I was just feels wrong. I will change, it's just a matter of how, right? It's a matter of which road I choose to follow when I encounter the fork. we need more forking encounters. seriously

more forking encounters? dork.
